OPTIONAL BENEFITS

These are additional benefits that you can choose to add onto your policy. We make them optional so you can have the choice and flexibility for what you really need, in order to be financially protected.

Sums insured above £1000 is an optional benefit.

We will set the amount of cover to what you need depending upon what you are paying for; this covers the cost of your trip for pre-paid flights, pre-paid transfers, hotel accommodation and pre-paid excursions.

Trip Type

Maximum Sum Insured (per person) – for Cancellation and Curtailment

Single Trip and Long -Stay

You may need to cancel or curtail your travel for a number of reasons;

  1. You suffer bodily injury, death, or illness and are advised not to travel by a medical practitioner;
  2. An immediate relative is, seriously injured or killed in an accident or suffers a sudden and unexpected serious illness which is unrelated to any pre-existing medical conditions;
  3. You are subject to compulsory quarantine, jury service attendance or being called as a witness at a Court of Law (but not as an expert witness or where your job would normally require you to attend court);
  4. You are made involuntary redundant if you are under the age of 65 years. You must have had 2 years’ continuous employment with the same employer (which qualifies for payment under current United Kingdom redundancy payment legislation) and at the time of booking the journey there must have been no reason to believe you would be made redundant;
  5. The police or other authorities request you to remain at your home due to serious damage to your home caused by fire, aircraft, explosion, storm, flood, subsidence, malicious persons or theft;
  6. You being posted overseas or being ordered to return to duty if you are in the Armed Forces, Police, Fire, Nursing or Ambulance Services. This cover does not apply to cancellation of leave due to war.
  7. You have opted to additionally cover the health of a non-travelling relative or travelling companion as shown on your schedule of insurance for your irrecoverable unused travel and accommodation costs and other prepaid charges which you have paid or you are contracted to pay as a result of their;
    1. unexpected necessary hospitalisation (as advised by their medical practitioner)
    2. diagnosis of a terminal medical condition;
    3. unexpected serious illness or death of a non-travelling immediate relative or travelling companion if you have opted to additionally cover the health of that non-travelling immediate relative or travelling companion and it is shown on your schedule of insurance.

You must be aware that:

There will be no cover for any cancellation relating to a travelling companion’s or non-travelling immediate relative’s pre-existing medical condition unless you have opted to include cover for this.

Unless you have purchased the optional cover for pre-existing conditions for non-travelling immediate relatives or travelling companions, there will only be cover under this section if they are hospitalised due to a sudden and unexpected serious illness or if they are injured (requiring hospitalisation) or killed in an accident.

You may optionally choose to insure your journey so that if due to a non-travelling immediate relative or travelling companion’s pre-existing health conditions their health deteriorates then you may cancel or curtail your journey.

Please refer to the Policy Wording for Terms and Conditions of this cover.
Please also refer to IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING HEALTH CONDITIONS in the Policy Wording

This cover is optional.

You will only be covered if you have paid the extra premium and it is shown on your schedule of insurance. Don’t be put off by the number of benefits included here – as you will see, this does not add a lot extra financially, but does from a protection perspective for the annoying things that can go wrong when you travel.

We offer this as an optional cover, because a lot of people have adequate home content insurance that will cover their personal possessions when they take them outside the home. It’s worth a quick check before you choose to add this extra cover to your policy. No need to pay twice!

Your baggage is most likely with you all the time, unless you are flying to meet your cruise, so Delayed Baggage is also optional in this section too.

If you decide you need our cover then this is what is included:

Up to £1000 for all of your possessions if they are accidentally lost or stolen. This is a per person amount.

However the valuables you take away with you e.g. watches or jewellery for example, we will only insure for up to £250 each item – so if you wear a Rolex or are taking the crown jewels away, don’t assume this insurance will cover their full value please!

If your baggage is delayed for more than 6 hours on your outbound journey, we will compensate up to £200 towards necessary items. Hang on to your receipts, we will need them.

If you are taking mobility aids with you, then we will insure these for theft or loss so you can hire a replacement for the rest of your journey – the sum insured is £200 to cover the hire of a replacement.

If anything gets stolen, make sure you get a Police Report. If your baggage is delayed you will need a Carriers Report.

Please refer to the Policy Wording for Terms and Conditions of this cover.

This cover is optional.

If you have to ‘stay connected’ and can’t completely switch off  - the chances are you will be taking something electronic away with you. Our insurance is for theft only, so dropping your phone over the side of a ship isn’t covered. But we do insure to much higher and more realistic levels of value –  if the worst does happen and your new phone and laptop, tablet and smart watch all get stolen, then you are at least financially protected. Just make sure you have a receipt for the electronic items you are insuring. If anything gets stolen, make sure you get a Police Report.

This cover is optional.

We know exactly how you might feel  - desperate for your next holiday or cruise, probably tired and a bit frazzled having looked after someone who is not in the best of health, or concerned that someone in the family whose health is not great, might become too ill for you to realistically take your trip.

There is often a big chunk of time between you booking your holiday and actually taking it. These things happen.

You know if there is someone in your family on whose health your travel will depend. Now you can insure this, so that if their pre-existing medical conditions really worsen a lot and you need to stay home and look after them – then we can add this to your cover, so that you can cancel if absolutely necessary.

Holiday companies and airlines are not amenable to letting you at the last minute cancel. Cruise companies will usually charge you the full value for cancellation if it’s in the last few months prior to embarkation – then often resell your cabin a second time. Its daylight robbery, but they get away with it.

Now you can protect yourself from this and we will compensate you for the cancellation amount.

It’s an option you may need to consider carefully and it must be added when you buy your policy. We can’t add this optional cover AFTER you have incepted your cover.

*Subject to screening acceptance. We will need to screen the person on whose health your travel depends.

Please refer to the Policy Wording for Terms and Conditions of this cover.

This cover is optional.

If you are travelling with a friend and you are not both insured on the same policy, then if something happens to your friend, which requires them to cancel their journey and it’s due to a pre-existing medical condition – you will find you might be travelling on your own, which is not so much fun.

Now it is possible to extend your travel insurance to make a provision for the health of a travelling companion – someone who is not on your travel insurance policy, but is travelling with you.

If you are going to hire a car then you may find that your car hire company ‘reckon’ you damaged their vehicle -  and when you get home you find a charge on your credit card that you knew nothing about – or maybe you did know because you did cause some damage. Either way, you can protect yourself from the car hire firms “Excess” – we will pay up to £6,000 to insure the excess charges you have had to pay.
